As soon as you arrive at Kwan Phayao, you should find the monument easily, as it’s located at the front park.
In case you don’t know Pho Khun Ngam Muang, he was the 9th king of Phayao, or Phukamyao in the past. He was the son of Pho Khun Ming Muang. During 1258 to 1298, which was his period, Phayao was plentiful and civilised. The town was also at peace, as Pho Khun Ngam Muang hated wars but loved Buddhism. He was a kind-hearted king. He brought a lot of good things to Phayao and also made friends with several countries nearby. He even caused Phayao to be one of the 3 large kingdoms of Thai ethnic groups: Lanna Kingdom, Sukhothai Kingdom, and Phayao Kingdom.
Not only that. The legend says that he was very powerful. There wouldn’t be harsh rain and sunlight wherever he went.
As he was a beloved king, villagers built him a monument in 1977. The monument consists of a bronze statue of Pho Khun Ngam Muang, which resembles his real height and has a sword in a hand.

How to get there
The monument is at Kwan Phayao lake. Therefore, use the same route. You just have to start from the heart of Phayao province. Then look for the road of Pratoochai and Phahonyothin. Just keep going. Then, just turn left when you find Kasikorn Bank. Get to Ta Kwan Road and reach Kwan Phayao. Finally, walk into the park and visit the statue.

This temple is even less than 2 kilometres away from the monument. There is a vihara in the middle of water, which you have to walk along a bridge to get to it. Also, there is a Chiangsaen Lord Buddha statue, which you will want to pay respect to. The temple is relaxing and has been being respected by Phayao villagers for so long.
